3 of the Best Ways You Can Use Your Voice to Control Your Home

Here’s How You Can Benefit from Control4 and Amazon Alexa’s Partnership

3 of the Best Ways You Can Use Your Voice to Control Your Home

If you have a home automation system, you likely know of the wide range of ways you can control your system.

Most systems include remotes, in-wall keypads and touchscreens and even smartphone, tablet and computer applications. From that interface, you can press a button and maneuver your control system.

But what if you didn’t need to touch anything to control your home’s technology?

What if you simply could speak a command and watch as your lights turn off or your TV changes channels?

In late 2016, Control4 announced integration with Amazon Alexa, one of the world’s leading voice-control systems.

More than a year later, that partnership continues to become more productive as the intelligence behind Alexa improves.

So, how can your Ponte Vedra Beach, FL home benefit from Control4 and Amazon Alexa’s partnership? We explain how in the sections below.

1. Use Your Voice for Simple Commands

Once an Amazon Echo links to your Control4 system, you can begin using it to manage your smart home.

You don’t need to press any buttons to use an Echo; simply say “Alexa,” and the system will turn on.

From there, you can command Alexa to do anything your Control4 system recognizes.

For example, imagine you say, “Alexa, dim the master bedroom lights to 70 percent." Instantly, Alexa will access your control system and will dim your lights to the desired setting.

Among some other simple home automation commands you can control with your voice: Changing the thermostat setting, activating motorized window treatments and more.

2. Control Scenes With Your Voice

Within any home automation system, you can create “scenes” that perform multiple actions through one command.

These scenes typically are generalized and can be named “Welcome,” “Good night,” and “Vacation,” among others.

While you usually only can access these commands through the control system’s interfaces, you can activate these scenes with Alexa.

Here’s one common instance: Within your Control4 interface, you program a “Good morning” command that includes rolling up your blinds, turning on lights that guide you from your bedroom to your kitchen and activating your whole-house audio system to play your favorite music station.

As soon as you wake up the next morning, you can say “Alexa, turn on the Good morning scene,” and watch and listen as your systems instantly recognize and complete your command.

If there’s an Echo nearby, it can perform any home automation task you desire.

3. Keep Your Home Safe

If you have a security system linked to your Control4 platform, your Alexa system can access it, too.

That means keeping your home secure doesn’t even have to include touching any buttons.

You simply can use your voice to lock doors or activate your security alarm system – whether you’re in bed ready to sleep or you’re on the way to work in the morning.

With Control4 and Alexa, you can add even more convenience and peace-of-mind to your day-to-day tasks.
